week&groove – I Want You

This week’s track is I Want You by Moloko. Fuck all the songs that are called “I Want You”. Just make love to this one. I did my first big life mistakes on this specific tune. They turned out to be the best earthly times ever. One of the most undercover songs in Moloko’s repertoire. One of the best, we all shall admit. Roisin Murphy is my living female fantasy. When exposed to her, I can sheepishly blush. No one swings between melodrama and pop with such a facile grandeur. I can spend hours talking about her, but I just have the urge to go grab a drink or twelve. Enjoy your week&, my venerated groover!

week&groove – Liquid Girl

This week’s track is Liquid Girl by Aloan. Yesterday was a flawless day for me. Not only have I finally spotted the best roasted free-range chicks in town, but I also discovered this jaw-dropping Swiss trip pop fairy tale revelation. Plus, I found my favorite boxers under my bed! Anyways… Aloan’s latest album “Pretty Freaks” offers a mystical world charged with unearthly creatures swaying Electro in a fifties Rock’n’Roll vibe. There’s definitely something about Lumi in the selected track. But you also gotta check out “Invisible” especially if you’re a Neo Soul fan.

week&groove – My Extended Morning

This week’s track is My Extended Morning by Elephanz. French emerging artists are constantly driving me nuts. Had this wacky band been born across the Channel, they would’ve set the rules in the British pop milieu. I discovered this phenomenon in a promotional compilation produced by French telecom company SFR to launch young talents. I bet the nervous rhythms and the suave groove will grow under your skin for the next couple of months. I just love SFR.

week&groove – Hypnotized

This week’s track is Hypnotized by Oliver Koletzki feat. Fran.

Can Electro touch people’s hearts? Well, if it’s a mid-tempo groovy number featuring creamy satiny vocals by pretty Fran, then Yeah!

It’s one of the rare electronic tracks that I can play during a stoli-veuve chillout session on my couch.

And yes, it’s still Friday in my head.

week&groove – Wouldn’t It Be Bad

This week’s track is Wouldn’t It Be Bad by Lady Gaga vs Kesha vs The Beach Boys. Snubbing the Gaga-Ouh-La-La would be highly hypocrite during this era we live in. DJ Clive$ter is my official Mash-Up-Chop-Pop messiah who definitely knows how to turn some cheap-processed Happy Cow squares into a kinda fancy aged Gorgonzola Di Buffala. How about some old Beach Boys tune melted with two of the most aired songs from the past months? Whether you adore or despise the original tracks, the end product will leave a certain mark on your beautiful neck.

week&groove – Mangia Amore

This week’s track is Mangia Amore by Marsmobil. I dedicate this edition to all those who were “stuck” in Milano last week, and to all those who brushed their teeth at least once in the seven past days. This band knows how to purée the trashy forgotten analogue sounds with the minimal-electro obsessive space-pop. The result is quite exotic and erotic. It will even titillate an orthodox nun’s mind. Never forget that a wise man once said: “It’s getting hot in here, so take out all your clothes”.

week&groove – Made For Beirut

This week’s track is Made For Beirut by Marc Codsi. When designer Raya Tueny offered me to collaborate with her on her narrative project, I couldn’t say anything but “Wicked!”. Made For Beirut situates fashion in a schizophrenic city that is in constant (re)construction. We stitch vernacular with glam. We reposition Beirut as a sustainable and creative hub through fashion. Codsi did a spectacular job (as usual) in composing this eccentric teaser-soundtrack that forces me not to answer my phone when it happens to ding. No one said that week&groove ain’t also about sending you a sassy ringtone to plunge you in my city’s peculiar mood.

week&groove – Pa’ Bailar

This week’s track is Pa’ Bailar by Julieta Venegas y Bajofondo. Boy, these kids democratized tango! Thanks to them, Argentina is witnessing the creation of an ingenious electrotango genre; while my holy iPod is undergoing a sophisticated explosion of double X chromosome delicacies. The scratchy voice of Julieta came to add a terrific passion to my favorite mid-tempo workout tune. And when I say workout, I don’t necessarily mean it on the treadmill.

week&groove – The Ghost Inside

This week’s track is The Ghost Inside by Broken Bells. Yes, a mellow, downtempo record can be pretty uplifting somehow. My name is Bruno, and I’m a musical finesse addict. I’m jolly that way. And guess what? Your playlist just became richer, darker and more complex. Your daily commutes will soon become more enjoyable too. Broken Bells’ eponym brilliant album was released last month, and has on its cover a huge Aids virus molecule. I can understand that. It’s highly contagious.

week&groove – Hide Me (Al Usher Remix)

This week’s track is Hide Me (Al Usher Remix) by Grandadbob. And finally, Al Usher, or as I’ve spent the last couple of weeks learning how to call him, “Al ‘Motherfuckingly Assfartingly Christpunchingly Doghumpingly’ Awesome Usher”. It’s pretty much one of my favorite things on which the pop-minded genius ever worked; I’m quite sure I’d put it above the stupidly great remix of Amy Winehouse’s “Tears Dry On Their Own”. It’s also, I assume, a killer song to dance to; all those little interlocking tropical synth lines give the song a paralyzingly infectious swing, while its airy, nonconfrontational melody makes it incredibly inviting (and a natural end-of-night track too – I’d love to hear this Behind that Green Door at 3:26 AM).
